In the beginning

there was you and me and only

the water’s expanse. We were drawn

to that seam that ran

its length- a rift where continents

like us might meet.

You jumped in, called out

the warmth of it. I dipped

cautious toes but my body

asked to bathe.

At our vantage point we were taken

aback by the colour. You said

I can’t imagine being

so blue. If I was, I’d drown.
