Gena Stutzman and Rusty Lynn

Rusty Lynn
“Bourning Owl”
Inspiration piece

Spring
By Gena Stutzman
Response

the frozen ground has thawed

eager branches begin to bud

seeds crack

roots muscle through warm, brown dirt

the butterfly remembers the

fragrance of lilacs and jasmine

Mrs. Goodson kneels

in her garden

flowers bloom and nod

bees are buzzing

the child next door remembers

the taste of homemade berry ice cream

and dances barefoot

in the spring rain
