Inspiration piece

I heard a lady singing
in the bathroom
at the store.

I couldn’t understand the words.
I washed my hands.
She sang some more.

Grownups hurried in and out.
They didn’t listen
didn’t stop.

They washed their hands so quickly
running water
running back to shop.

But me, I drank the music
of her Spanish
of her song.

I still hear it
in my head.
I try to sing along.
