Fused and linked and born and died
Blood and bones and sky and tide
Mountains tall and climbers high
Fish and fowl trees reaching nigh
Breathing growing intertwining
Life as one the universe
Part and parcel all connected
One huge whole of planet terse
Some aware of these connections
Others blind though truth does spark
Light and dark and color sprinkled
Day and night the song of Lark
Life eternal all around us
Skin and fur and bud and bloom
Joy of living all of matter
All together neath sun and moon
Glorious planet heaving flying
Celebrations ring throughout
Renewal constant promise ever
All life sparking north and south
All of us all blessed and sacred
All of us together chained
Each of us needing each other
Love the binding that honors, tames.

Wide Open Wonder

The slopes and angles kiss the eye
The light and shadow taunts
The sparseness hungers for colors bright
To bathe, enliven these haunts
The brushstroke trees prickle the air
The sharpened tines shoot tall
A little bird seeks a tiny lunch
The landscape disappoints in winter’s thrall
Landscape as character in so many lives
Playing a role and dictating what’s done
The slopes and angles welcoming some
For others a choice a beach and some sun
But wanderers seek the quiet the sparse
Painting in mind on a canvas so vast
The thoughts deep in mind and brushing the soul
A feeling of depth and contentment at last!

A big sponge—I slurp up the city
Borne on concrete streets
Shaded by looming skyscrapers
The never-ending hustle and bustle
Slinked into my bloodstream
Inoculating me from all that is dull
early in life.
No sleeping in the city- electricity stealing the night
No seeing the sun – scrapers to the sky snatching the rays
Bridges extend their steely arms whispering COME
Come here. Come now. The pace is rapid dance
Feet bouncing in the rhythms of a neighborhood walkabout
While all kinds of music scent the air lyrics in many languages
It’s the city—engine of all—alive in the busyness of the world
And I—a big sponge – inhale it – always looking up!

As inhabitants step out
Wondrous colors and sweet light stain
All looking forward, looking about
Is that woman in the foreground
Part of all or visiting new
Is she progressing from her old town
Or a tourist there to view
In these times no easy answer
Hard to tell as cultures blend
Are the group holding up lancers
Is this scene beginning or at an end
Hello or Goodbye/ is it peace that is nigh
Or is a confrontation about to begin
As observers we wait breath suspended and short
Eyes locked on the colors drawing us in.

As lettuce limey poses
Like living necklace snuggled in
Among the veg and roses
The colors speak and whisper low
Not all is seen with ease
And as you choose a sharpened lens
The length of snake hides from the breeze
While nature once again hugs deep
All beings from the earth
Human, flowers, snake and twigs
Alive- connected from moment of birth.

Always a respite, always a listener, the sea encourages dreams
Inspiring, comforting, shooting us into renewal, surfing us into better lithesome selves
Alone with the sea but ever in contact with the endless life forms that live in her depths
Reminding us that the forevers we count on and the tomorrows we will enjoy are present
Walking with us, talking with us, breezing us into a newness cell deep positive
Horizon far yet near – white billowing clouds inviting us to a music of peaceful encounter
Alone with the sea but never alone
Its comfort and wisdom from ages promise the stroller on its fringes a return to sanity

Sharpened edges crying out yet pushing off
Bursts of light, sea, places to run, refuel
Or stay, parched and thirsty in the sun
Womb like center deep and safe
now brittle and sharp
Stiff in the wind, cracking and screaming loud
A troubled cut down branch, rootless and seeking more
Once leafy and welcoming, nest for birds and squirrels
now victim of the ax and shears
Deadened wood reminding us of a lush planet betrayed
Waste and greed slurping the life out of nature.

Concussion of sound and thrusts upward fly
And life soon emerges in a rawness of grey
And leaps on to land —wild emerge
The universe opens and spreads arms quite wide
As all life is in oneness reborn
Refashioned, envisioned, exploding, enhanced
Evolving in another new form.
The fauna, the flora, the fish and the fowl
The human, the other, the sea and the land
All expressions of life and all forms yet to be
In the mind, in the soul, in the hand.
Intersectional all myriad mixes and tones
Colors and lyrics and melodies strange
Combine in each newness entire and whole
As the lips kiss the breath of an infinite range
And so it all flows from the sea to the land
And back to the sea and on to the stars
As things fall apart and together again
Life is change, life is raw, life’s in charge.
