If this body is a temple
then I worship at the Pantheon
On my left shoulder, the huntress
and a bag of quivers plucked from skin
On my right shoulder, Ceres
with her bowl of grain and ashes.

To whom do I offer myself?
Fleet of foot across my chest, Mercury
his parchment pale as your cheek
tells the secret of the secrets
I draw back the bow, I take aim,
and I miss you.

Powdered Inks & Budding Seeds

Contrite it seems that I need to find a space in which I can breathe with lungs that don’t quiver when I freeze; a spirit crushed like the powdered inks mixed with water to paint the lines of separation in grids and degrees.

I ask, were we? I was not ready to deal with all the distant things stuck in time like a painting of sickly trees each with one green leaf sorely out of place simply craving to be.

Secretly wishing to make an amends with all the spirits that too soon found their ends, I stand; I demand ghosts half there and half aware to let go of living infatuations with having elations attributed by a special who, what and where.

I become just like a lonely dog lost in the streets with a home in its heart that seems so far apart from where it is now and where it needs to be.

In our heads we see a group of friends holding hands singing campfire hymns in hopes we can erase our sins or at least find resolution as the water rushes in, fills to the brim whilst we decide if we should sink or swim.

I try to break my own heart, try to wear myself thin, try to recommence just do it all over again; realize these analogies are without heart; I am of a blind congregation, playing my part.

My predictions are the only things I have and the only soil I can grow in; it might take two dozen years before I see the first budding seed but at least I know that it did come from me.

wise
ones rest
high upon
the jeweled tree
breaking the silence
only to whisper the words
‘write everyday’ so let this
one small poem be an offering
to the wise ones honoring their presence
as they reflect shining fragments of truth
every moment becomes a gift
an inspiration that can cut
into my lost memory
and the haze of illness
releasing each word
trapped within the
marked walls of
writers
block

Appreciate Time

Caught up in the day to day routine
life is so busy, so frenetic
there is no time,
no time to visit friends
no time to enjoy the Saturday afternoon
while sitting on their porch in a rocking chair
drinking a cup of tea or lemonade
but then tragedy strikes, and they are gone
death has dealt a blow to their family, their friends, and me
I am left with only vague memories and
regrets of time which could have been spent more wisely
I should have…
if only I had made the time
I feel nothing but sorrow and a dull ache
a result of the knowledge
I have deprived myself of experiences with friends
because I was too busy to slow down
too busy to take the time to appreciate life
