Your Eyes
by Linda M. Rhinehart Neas
Response
Your eyes –
In them, beauty
Spoke volumes long before I heard
Your voice or noticed that you
Held yourself regally – a queen
Incognito among the people
Your eyes –
In them, pain
Told me the story of your past
Of the times where disappointment
Despair, and disaster shook
The foundations of your world
Your eyes –
In them, love
Sang the songs of your ancestors
Sang the lullabies of generations
Sang the anthems of desire
Sending my heart aflutter.
