Response

This day looks like chrysanthemums have smeared
across the windshield, lending bloom to my
inertia. Red on sky, as it appeared
like liquid in the rearview, like the dye

has moved the evening into view. I do
not know what rests beyond your lashes, how
the light must bend before it wiggles through
the pane, but blink again, don’t raise your brow

or purse your lips. The red now pink, a rose,
a Cadillac.
