This is such a richly drawn portrait of the matador back in the old dressing room of the crumbling arena now turned into a rarely visited museum. It is a fitting and whispered leak to the press, baring the secret musings that in reality flow through all densely-illusioned souls, which means pretty much all souls. The funny thing (and the brilliance in this writing) is that the character Jimmy thinks he is alone in all this (both the disillusion and the sad) when really he muses over a common fate that simply in his case has a colorful back story to it. He describes what fools we all are in considering ourselves alone in our lifeboats. Touché to the writer and the artist for meshing this fleeting image so well.

He speaks for a generation, for all of us a certain age, and expresses both the regret we feel for ourselves and for our parents, yet somehow with fondness and a feeling that we wouldn’t have wanted it that much different and we’re glad it was the way it was, because it made us what we are, which isn’t all that bad.

Elegiac and immensely moving in these sad days. This story needs to be read by many people I know.
