“Dancing with Red”
Acrylic on paper, size: 30” x 22″
Response
January Saturday
…(or Ode to Candlemas)
By JoAnn Moore
Inspiration piece
Despite the recent rains
one of the backyard cherries
holds fast to its long dead leaves and rattles
a crisp dance
in the offshore breeze.
A week of sun has convinced
the corner maple to bud—
but you can tell it hasn’t
fully committed.
Unlike the magnolia—
with its treeful of fuzzy pods—
soft like the pussy willows of childhood,
but better—because there,
on one high branch,
a lone bloom tentatively
tests the warmth’s strength.
A brave barometer
to the turning sun.
