Gosh, this says it all – the beginning, the middle and the end of this relationship. “Did it hurt?” It brings back the accumulation of every hurt, from the death of a loved-one to a “mere” rejection. And WHAT a gate! I found this a powerful partnership.

It’s an unusual gate, and, interesting that everything looks greener on the other side, making the poem even more poignant because we really never know. Love Annmarie’s words that speak so lucidly of love and longing and inaccessibility. The last two lines are especially poignant. Thank you Annmarie for sharing this beautiful poem! The picture reminds me of the rooftop of a jail. The poem conjures up the feeling of isolation when two hearts split apart. This is stunning.
