The Unforgiven

the history of your neglect unfolds
over the phone.
I am done obliging and
deciphering the language of your discontent.
I once hoped its interpretation would save me, from

being banished to closets
then greeted with cookies and remorse.
betrayal will not be erased by a magician’s cape of your sorries
I had no choice but to wish you  away  while cursing my loneliness.

hate soothes me in its righteousness
Without the side dishes of bitterness and disappointment
it is a mantra, soothing as rain
