Cynthia Nazari and Elizabeth Cordes

Cynthia Nazari

Fish Princess
By Elizabeth Cordes
Inspiration piece

Murky sand covers her toes
as she looks out over the edge of the world
The day is overcast,
hot and damp
the salt of the sea
sticks to her skin,
stings her eyes.

A lone gull is the only accompaniment
to the dull rushing,
in and out,
of the waves.
They come ever higher,
over her ankles.
The foam licks her knees.

She takes a step farther,
water rising.
She breaths in,
at peace,
as the ocean
welcomes her.
