Welcome to Spark!

A participatory, inclusive creativity event…

that’s Spark, and we want you to join us!

Open to writers, musicians, and visual artists of all kinds, Spark takes place four times each year.

During each 10-day project round, participants create new work using someone else’s art, writing, or music as inspiration. All resulting work is then displayed online, alongside the piece that inspired it.

This site contains inspiration and response pieces from Spark’s 2010 – 2018 rounds. You can view those pieces by clicking “Home,” above. You can also see the results from Spark’s first six rounds here.

Spark rounds take place in February, May, August, and November and are open to all. We also hold postcard exchanges a few times each year. If you’d like to join us, send Amy a note!

Groups range in size from three to six participants, meaning you make and receive two to five cards. Participants come from all over the world, so some international postage might be necessary. You have a month to create cards and can can draw, paint, collage, make an erasure poem — anything that will fit through the mail system. No store-bought cards allowed, unless you alter them substantially in some way.
