Inspiration piece
Navigating the World
By Amy Souza
Response
Girls can’t handle heavy
Petting, the school nurse said
They always want more
That thing that
Differentiates you
The ability to bear pain
Parts of your body too big
Too small, yes you can
Disappoint everyone
Collared shirts, skinned
Knees, no good answer
To the questions
Don’t smile back unless
You’re meant to
Smile back
You cannot fail at
Being a woman
Hips, self-sacrifice
You’d make a great mother

Oh, I LOVE this pairing, both the GORGEOUS painting and this wry response poem. WONDERFUL!
