Jazz Portal
Kathleen Finn Jordan
Inspiration piece

La Belle Vie she chants
As his breath paints pictures
Through the harmonica
Love, pain, Paris in the spring
Sweet sugar laced with poignant lemon
The sweet and sour of life’s journey

Paris opens the Grand door
The huge portal
For American Jazz to enter
Flourish – spread
Notes tumbling unguarded
As new sound – free sound
Welcomes all
Black musicians center stage
Spirits flying, hands skimming keys
Voices soaring, deepening depths of soul
And rhythm as the beat enters,
deceives, and roars
The unexpected
Pure joy – Merci
