Holding a green teapot, she sits in the silent
patience of her unmoving wings –
little kitchen angel figurine:
unmarked by stains, unfallen, proud
with her wings upheld. Like
the birds proclaiming sunshine
outside my shaded window, she
almost dares to take flight. And I,
in my rumpled plaid pajamas,
curl winglessly around a cup
of peach tea. Hiding under
my quilted spills and stains,
my slouching shadowed spine, bare back
where wings have never been.
