I’m sorry I didn’t answer the door
I’m sorry I didn’t let your in
my heart was raw and sore
from past exposure to the din
The first of autumns chills
came late in October this year
sweeping down from the hills
and you were nowhere near
I hid from the world and myself
from feeling anything like tough
you stood there with open arms
until the sun came up
until my heart melted
until it was just enough
for me
to let
