Grace Burns and Judy Weinberg

Judy Weinberg

Inspiration

Grace Burns

Response

Sole Survivor

it was high tide
as I whispered forevers
enamored footprints and
hope filled heart

you chanted love
never ceasing
false footprints and
deceptive heart

I returned alone
at high tide
solitary footprints and
grateful heart

having narrowly escaped
the lethal suction
of your undertow and
barnacled heart

I love the way the dark notes of the poem contrast with the light in the photo. And this: “the lethal suction/of your undertow”–so good!
