The warning lights,
red and blinking
dazzled
like an invitation
to a cautionary tale.
my catechism
is worn out and weary:
“don’t’ let him bring you down,”
but I’m already there
trembling instead of flinching,
just like you wanted
when you tilted to go in.
my head slants towards
the overhang in the alley,
making wings out of
broken shadows.
the devil i know is right here
