Radiant Child
Inspiration piece
Satellite of Love
By Lisa Nielsen
Response
Satellite of love
I poked holes in the sun,
scrutinized the stars
(I know you hear me)
radiant child floats in on flames, unbothered
by my scraped up knees and whiskey soaked hair
as I lay in an outline of detailed jaundice
he came out of a broken moon and offered me sanctuary —
fitting in with a wayward grace
so even when I stumbled,
gravity had mercy
Now, I run my finger over his sausage arm,
my lips graze his greasy scalp
he knitted together embryonic strings
and called it a cape
tomorrow no longer tastes bitter
I can stop being a suspicious fortuneteller,
portioning out my heart like a shared steak, as I carry you
from room to room –
my offer
my new life
my basket of gold

I love so many lines in this poem, and it feels like a natural outgrowth of the color in the image–even though I can’t really tell you why! The last four stanzas are spectacular!
