“It’s Sunday Morning”

Response

It’s Sunday Morning
By Cecilia Driscoll
Inspiration piece

Surely it is not escape I seek
as I retreat to a distant floor
book, paper, pen in hand.
I want to be found
by the peace of silence, of listening.
I want to be found by kindness
from within.

There is always commotion beyond
the thresholds.  Mostly I
reach out to it, go, stand
next to it, and shrug my shoulders.

But it is Sunday, and today I begin
with a long breath, imagining
something better, like the dance of clouds,
like myriad bird tones
just outside my window,
surrounding, infusing, taking me.
