The Compassion of Robin Red-breast

Robin Red-breast, kindly bird
who sang when Jesus preached The Word

Alit upon the cross of wood
the day he did his act of good

Distraught to see the red wounds seep
and moved to hear Our Savior weep

The robin overcame his fear
and put his beak to Jesus’ ear

And perched upon the Jewish King
he took a breath as if to sing

Then whistled out a soothing balm
a song of beauty and of calm

And as His earthly life did wane
upon his chest Christ’s blood did stain

And as The Lord was laid to rest
His blood had marked the robin’s breast

Then on the third day He did rise
and joy and love shone in the eyes

of Robin Red-breast, kindly bird
who sang when Jesus preached The Word.

Love the spot color. Sets the tone for the poem to follow.
